My Funny Valentine!
Saturday, August 22, 2009, 7:00 p.m. and again at 9:30 p.m.
James A. Gray Auditorium, Old Salem Visitor Center. (*separate admission charged for each set)

Acclaimed vocalist Martha Bassett joins musicians Matt Kendrick, Federico Pivetta, John Wilson, Wally West, Ken Wilmot, and Jacqui Carrasco for a program of classic songs from the Rodgers & Hart Songbook including “The Lady is a Tramp”, “Manhattan”, “My Funny Valentine”, “This Can't Be Love”, and “Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered.” This year the 7:00 p.m. set will be repeated at 9:30 p.m.

American Landscapes
Sunday, August 23, 2009, 3:00 p.m.
Reynolda House Museum of American Art.

Taking its inspiration from the photography featured in the “Heroes of Horticulture” exhibit at the Reynolda House Museum of American Art, this concert covers terrain ranging from Edward MacDowell's "Woodland Sketches" to Vaughan Williams’ “Along the Field.” Artists include Glenn Siebert, tenor; Peter Kairoff, piano; Jacqui Carrasco, violin; and Elizabeth Ransom, flute.

Week two of the Festival begins with brilliant virtuosity for winds and piano in the music of Barber, Poulenc, and Beethoven, all surrounded by Jon Kuhn Studio Gallery of shimmering glass sculptures.

Back by popular demand! A multi-media history tour of the sights and sounds of North Carolina featuring the Festival Brass with special guest narrator Lanie Pope from WXII12..

Tango!
Saturday, August 29, 2009, 7:30 p.m.
James A. Gray Auditorium, Old Salem Visitor Center

This season finale features the exciting and evocative nuevo tango music of Astor Piazzolla, including a rarely heard sextet and his “L’histoire du tango” for flute and guitar. Artists include Jacqui Carrasco, violin; Matt Kendrick, bass; Federico Pivetta, piano; Elizabeth Ransom, flute; Joseph Pecoraro, guitar; with other special guests to be announced.

Winston-Salem French hornist Joe Mount and flutist Lisa Ransom provide a season preview for the Carolina Summer Musical Festival's second year of outstanding chamber music in the month of August with Jazz, Schumann, Tango, brass ensembles and more.
