Meet the Musicians . . .

Alex Maynegre, piano

Alex Maynegre began studying the piano at age seven in his native Mataró in Catalonia, Spain. He obtained the highest degree in piano performance from the Conservatori Superior del Liceu de Barcelona in 1996.
In May 2002, Maynegre completed his Master’s degree and the Artist Diploma at the Hartt School (Hartford, CT), studying with professors Luiz de Moura Castro and David Westfall.

Since 1998, Maynegre has received prizes in several competitions both in Spain and the United States. In 1999, he won the Emerson String Quartet competition and performed in a public concert with the Grammy Award winning ensemble.

Since 2002, Maynegre’s main interest has been in the field of accompanying. He has performed numerous recitals with both instrumentalists and singers, including flutist Tadeu Coelho, clarinetist Igor Begelman, violinist Kevin Lawrence and cellist Brooks Whitehouse. Since 2008, Maynegre has worked as staff accompanist for the renowned Meadowmount School of Music for Strings.

Currently a Doctoral candidate in Collaborative Piano at the University of Colorado under the tutelage of Anne Epperson, Maynegre has been recently appointed a collaborative pianist position at the University of North Carolina, School of the Arts in Winston-Salem.

Alex Maynegre performs regularly in duo recitals with his wife, cellist Beth Ringel, as the Montserrat Duo.
