| The Carolina Chamber Symphony Players Meet the Musicians . . . Ruth Metheny, violinRuth Metheny moved to Greensboro in 1997 and received her Master’s Degree in Violin Performance at UNCG in 1983, studying under Dr. David Moskovitz. She became a member of the Greensboro symphony Orchestra, and after obtaining her degree, joined the Winston-Salem Symphony Orchestra. She also became a member of the Greensboro Symphony string education ensemble and is now the leader and liaison of that group. In the mid-1990s, she took the position of Principal First violin in the Winston-Salem Symphony, eventually becoming the Associate Concertmaster. She also took positions with two of the Winston-Salem Symphony’s education ensembles: The Mary Starling String Quintet, which she now leads, and the Fun with Fiddles String Quartet. She has also recorded in ensembles and played solo for, and performed/lectured for Kindermusik International. Ms. Metheny has been a member of various chamber ensembles, including the Greensboro Chamber Players and the Greensboro Symphony Chamber Orchestra. She has been a member of the Carolina Chamber Symphony for several years and resides in Greensboro with her husband, Gary, and her two daughters, Chandra and Akila. |
